How PracticeHub helps you meet the RACGP 6th edition Standards

On 26 August 2026, the RACGP released the 6th edition of its Standards for general practices, the first full rewrite since the 5th edition in 2017.

The 6th edition introduces new and expanded areas, including practice governance and planning, digital health and artificial intelligence, and environmental sustainability. The Standards are what your practice is assessed against at accreditation.

Not just yet. Accreditation currently still runs on the 5th edition, and the transition dates and assessment arrangements are yet to be confirmed by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care.

Practices are encouraged to start putting the new systems and processes in place now, so there's no last minute rush once the transition period begins. Getting ahead early is the simplest way to keep the move manageable.

For the 6th edition, we're releasing a full suite of new content, developed by the experts at Avant, covering the new Standards and the new areas within them such as digital and AI, and environmental sustainability.

Instead of interpreting the Standards and writing everything from scratch, you get ready made systems you can adopt and tailor to your practice. This content will be available from late October 2026.

The new suite is built specifically around the 6th edition and includes:

  • Rewritten policies and procedures, in plain language that makes sense for you and your team
  • A broader range of templates to make it simpler to record and show evidence of compliance
  • A new course covering the Environmental Sustainability and Responsibility requirements.

Yes. Once the new content is available, you decide when to switch from the 5th edition content to the 6th edition content, giving you control over the timing throughout the transition period.

When the transition period ends and all practices must be accredited against the 6th edition, everyone moves across to the new content. That means you can align the switch with your own accreditation date rather than working to someone else's timeline.

You won't be doing this on your own. Alongside the new content, PracticeHub provides:

  • Webinars on the 6th edition and how to use PracticeHub to meet the Standards
  • Guidance on adopting the new content and integrating it with the systems you already have
  • Optional support packages with a consultant, for practices that want extra hands on help.

Integrating PracticeHub into our clinic operations has been a game changer. It has streamlined the management of our practice policies and procedures, making compliance simple and efficient. Staff onboarding is now seamless, ensuring every team member is equipped with the right information from day one.
